Description / Special Requirements | The ADL Dining Room is an domestic style area, for activities of daily living (ADL) independence assessments and rehabilitation training for patients of varying levels of physical and cognitive ability. In this space patients will be assessed and trained in feeding tasks - particularly re-learning to feed themself after traumatic injury or illness. Typically provided within the Transitional Living Unit, the ADL Dining Room may also be a space for a patient along with their visitors to eat their meals, away from the bedroom environment. The ADL Dining Room will be located adjacent to the ADL Kitchen. The room will include a domestic table and chairs and adequate space to enable patients, with or without assistive mobility devices, to move around and sit at the table without impeding adjacent areas. Where ever possible, patients should re-learn, practice and be assessed in their own homes. Ideally, purpose built facilities should only be used to prepare patients to return home, for tasks requiring equipment that is not yet available in the home, and to assess a patient's readiness to return home where further rehabilitation will take place. Therefore, the room furnishings will be domestic in style and scale to mimic home conditions with a slight increase in the room size to accommodate additional equipment and assistive devices. Natural light and outlook is desirable. Body Protected electrical area |
