A Pathology Bay provides for point of care laboratory analyses in critical care areas. Staff use this space for specimen preparation and testing. The workspace will suit a staff member who is standing.
This bay may need to accommodate a fridge for temporary storage of specimens before delivery to the main pathology laboratory. This bay may be collocated with a pneumatic tube bay. The pneumatic tube bay can be used for sending specimens to the main pathology laboratory for comprehensive analysis.
Additional Design Considerations:
- Staff should have ready access to a handwashing bay
- Bay should be supervised by staff at all times
- Spatial arrangment will depend on devices required in each clinical
setting - devices to be deterimed at project level
- In a multi-device bay, a 300mm gap between each device is
recommended
- Consider height clearances required over devices if over head joinery is
installed
- Consider the weight of devices and reinforce joinery as required
- Demineralised water may be required to the sink depending on device
requirements
