A screened area for patients using wheelchairs to change, independently or assisted, from street clothes into a hospital gown prior to examination or treatment. Following examination or treatment, the patient will use this type of space to change back into their street clothes. The Change Cubicle should provide facilities for hanging clothes and a bench for the patient to sit on whilst changing. A 1500x1500mm clear circulation space is to be provided in the layout to allow the user to manoeuvre a wheelchair comfortably.
Design Considerations:
- Provisions for hanging patients' clothing and securing valuables, if these
are not to be kept with the patient, should be considered either within this
room (if lockable) or in shared secure storage or dedicated patient
lockers
- Waiting areas for gowned patients should be provided adjacent to the
change cubicles with adequate privacy screening
- Gowned patients should have access to toilet facilities without passing
through public areas
Acoustics: Sound attenuation level - medium; acoustic privacy required.
