The Staff Station is the administrative base for a Unit, and enquiry point for patients and visitors. It provides for the co-ordination of patient care, observation, writing up of clinical notes, entering data into computers and making and receiving telephone calls. The Staff Station may also accommodate a Unit Receptionist/ Clerk. The floor area may vary according to the Unit, activity level, number of full and part-time staff, the Operational Model and the building layout. If additional staff are required, a minimum allowance of 2m2 per person standing or seated should be provided; The Staff Station 14m2 is suitable for a typical Inpatient Unit of 30 beds.
Acoustics: Sound attenuation level - Medium; acoustic privacy required.
Special Design Considerations:
- Staff Station should have a set down area for disabled access
- CCTV monitor/intercom and door release button linked to entry point to
be considered for areas where controlled and after hour access is
required
- Consideration should be given to location of PC CPU units; where
possible mount below benchhtops
- Consideration should be given to incoporation of VDU's for video
monitoring of patients as required, e.g. for ICU, Mental Health
areas and other 'at risk' patients
