A toilet and handbasin for use by disabled persons with or without assistance. The room shall comply with relevant accessibility standards. Baby change facilities may also be located in this room. The room may be used by patients or visitors. If the Accessible Toilet is located in a patient care area the patient/ nurse call and emergency call points should be included. An Accessible toilet should be provided if it is the only toilet in the area.
Additional Design Considerations:
- Consideration may be given to installation of an additional small hand
basin adajcent to the toilet that would allow wheelchair users to rinse and
dry their hands from a seated position before transferring back onto their
wheelchair, assisting with infection control. Ensure this basin does not
impede wheelchair to toilet transfers or circulation space.
- A shelf may be provided adjacent to the toilet for personal items.
If provided, this shelf should be approximately 950mm AFFL and
placed so that it will not be used as a support by semi ambulant users
- WC design may be chosen to ensure flush controls are mounted on the
open (transfer) side of the toilet to ensure they are reachable by a
wheelchair user facing the toilet
Acoustics: Sound attenuation level - High - Acoustic privacy.
