Description / Special Requirements A Single Bedroom for activities of daily living (ADL) independence assessments and rehabilitation training for patients of varying levels of physical and cognitive ability. In this space patients will be assessed and trained in dressing, undressing, grooming, bed-making and bed transfers. Equipment and manual handling training may also be provided for family/ carers of patients who will require assistance upon returning home. Where ever possible, patients should re-learn, practice and be assessed in their own homes. Ideally, purpose built facilities should only be used for more complex tasks, those requiring equipment that is not available in the home, and to assess a patient's readiness to return home where further rehabilitation will take place. Therefore, the room furnishings will be domestic in style and scale to mimic home conditions with a slight increase in the room size to accommodate equipment and alternative furniture items (e.g. a variety of chairs should be available to find the style that is most suited to the patient's needs and abilities and to then recommend for home use). Ample circulation room is required to teach and practice both independent and assited transfers using wheelchairs, transfer boards and mobile patient lifter hoists. Storage for equipment, including storage for patient lifter hoist(s) and slings, bed rails, bed cradles, various walking frames and other assistive devices should be located near by. Natural light and outlook is desirable. The room is to be lockable. Acoustics: Acoustic privacy is required. Body Protected Electrical Area
