Description / Special Requirements | An area for visitors and patients to wait in comfort prior to or during visits to a Unit. The Waiting area may be used by the public, patients, families and other visitors to a facility. The Waiting area should be easily observed by staff. The Waiting area will require facilities for a range of occupants including adults and children, both able-bodied and disabled; the waiting area must provide access for visitors in wheelchairs. An external outlook is desirable. Waiting areas may be shared between Units. Public amenities, including parenting rooms, should be located nearby. Separate areas may be allocated for Female and Family waiting. Additional Design Considerations: - Sound absorbant materials may be required to reduce noise disturbances in adjacent areas - Waiting areas may require ready access to drinking water - Public waiting areas should include public comunications services - Room elements and furniture should provide capacity for obese patients and visitors interspersed with traditional furnishings - Additional area will be reuqired if Play Area provided. Parents should be able to observe the Play Area from the Waiting Area |
